Now that I'm six months into blogging, I've been giving a lot of thought to restructuring Joyfully Green so it's easier for you (the reader) and me (the writer). If you've been a regular reader (thank you!), you know that I've gotten myself into a pattern of writing one "research paper" per week on a green topic, and then you don't hear from me again until the following week. Quite simply, it's because I'm busy reading all week leading up to the "research paper", which you can probably guess takes a good chunk of time and effort, built around other commitments. And on your end, I'm pretty sure you don't always have time for lengthy reading, given your own commitments. In that spirit, I'm re-starting my blog engine.
From now on, I'm going to begin the week with an inspiring quote or photo (most times, both). Mid-week, I'm going to post "Instantly Greener", which will be a quick eco-tip. End of week, I'm going to keep trying for a lengthier topic (although sometimes I might skip a week), so you can read it at your leisure over the weekend. Sound good?
As always, I welcome your comments, suggestions, and questions. Actually, let's go deeper than that for a moment. The strange thing about having a blog (and it's such a common plight for bloggers) is that even though I regularly get feedback from my family, relatives, friends, neighbors (who, thankfully, are also friends), and fellow bloggers, I don't really hear from anybody else "out there." After I've written a post and I hear from the aforementioned people, it seems as though the post has fallen down a well, into the Great Unknown. And yet, I seem to have many readers--something I know thanks to the (rather spooky) technology of Google Analytics, which tracks the number of readers, their general locations in the world, and their time spent on the site. (It's a bit like Orwell's "Big Brother", but don't worry, I don't know exactly where or who you are.)
While I'm extremely grateful for your loyal readership (thank you, thank you, and a thousand times, thank you!), here's the part I'd like to change: When I began this blog, my mission was to create a forum for the exchange of ideas, but sometimes, it seems like it's just little ol' me, blathering away into my computer. So, please, speak up--let me know you're really "out there." You can offer your own suggestion or a super-quick comment on a piece ("love it" or "hate it"), or you can just say "hi." Be as anonymous as you want; even make up a funny name. If you have any problems with the Comments section (which is right below the post when you're on the site--subscribers, you will need to actually go to JoyfullyGreen.com and scroll down under the post), email me and let me know, so I can look into fixing it or changing to a new commenting system (I already have a few in mind). Because it would be really, truly, ever-so-nice to know that somebody is "out there" reading, without having to check Google Analytics to verify it.
If you're just too shy to comment, please consider subscribing via email (on the main page, under Categories), which will also let me know that you're really "out there." You will never receive spam of any sort (I promise), and I'm the only one (besides Feedburner) that would see your email address.
And one more favor, since I'm already in full-on Groveling Mode: If you already subscribe, please pass on the site to somebody else who might enjoy it.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I would appreciate those three things--your comments, your subscription, and your passing it on. Suffice it to say: Immensely!
