Well, it's almost 12 hours later and I'm still blessedly full-to-bursting, thanks in part to this super-yummy pumpkin flan from my mother-in-law. (How gorgeous is that?!) I am full-to-bursting thankful for so many things and so many people, but I don't want to sound like one of those yawn-inducing, long-winded acceptance speeches at the Oscars, so let's just skip right to this week's Joyful Reads for the Weekend, shall we?
- Although it's the day after Thanksgiving, it's never too late to be grateful. I learned the non-Scrooge meaning for "Ebenezer" from my new friend, Evelyn, at Smallish, with her smart post called A Thanksgiving Stone. Thanks to her, we celebrated with our own "Ebenezer stones" at our Big Feast.
- It seems fitting on Black Friday to include a post about gifts that cost little or nothing (but are worth much more than you can find on any trip to the madhouse mall), wisely curated by the always-wise Lois at Living Simply Free.
- A couple of years ago, after re-reading The Wind in the Willows, I craved more "pure coziness." (Those animal friends always seemed to end a nail-biting adventure back in their cozy homes that were tucked into the meadow, the riverbank, or the Wild Wood, nestled beside a fireplace with scrumptious soup and a mug of mulled wine.) I googled "cozy" and found what would become one of my favorite blogs ever: Posie Gets Cozy. Alicia Paulson photographs her Portland home, work, and life in a light that seems made of warm cinnamon buns and hot cocoa. She and her husband had a long and difficult road to finally becoming parents, so I am even more heartwarmed whenever I see photos of their darling daughter, who celebrated her first birthday in this post: Then: One.
- With all the craziness of the season about to go full-tilt, I practically embraced this post from Gillian at Tales from a Happy House about finding the simple joy in Domestic Bliss.
- Linda from Notes from the Arena wrote a thoughtful piece called Otter Contentment. Spoiler Alert: It's not really about otters, but about finding your own pace, and your own peace. (Loved it!)
Here's to finding your own pace and peace during this holiday season--and always.
****Don't forget! The chance to win a free photographic art print of your choice (by yours truly) ends this Monday, December 2 at noon EST! For details, see this post: In the Season of Giving, a Giveaway!
