My goodness! Last Friday's post on "Joyful Reads for the Weekend" got a LOT of traffic, so it's official: It will be an every-Friday feature here. (Thanks, everybody, for making that decision so easy for me!) Without further ado, here are my selections for the weekend--some beautifully written pieces that made me think. (They made me think, "Wow, I wish I'd written that!") This is also a tribute to some of my best blogging buddies--friends I've made since starting my blog.
- Fred First from Fragments from Floyd is not only an amazingly talented nature photographer, but he's also been somewhat of a blogging mentor to me, ever since we both wrote posts about our separate (and very different) coyote encounters--the internet informed us that we'd written "related articles" and we've been conversing ever since. I loved this poetic piece of prose from him (not about coyotes): Winding Down, Drawing In.
- I met my friend Nancy at BlogHer '13 in Chicago, and I'm happy to tell you that she's both nice and smart. She's also written an extremely insightful analysis of the four types of people walking the earth: The Nice/Smart Matrix.
- I first got to know Carlynn and her ultra-cute, very stylish blog, JJBegonia.com, when we both wrote about our "deer friends" last summer. Here's her take on them: In Honor of Our "Deer" Friends.
- I love Cher. No, not that Cher. Cher from Radical Farmwives (even though I'm neither a farmwife nor particularly radical). Not only are her photographs of her children beyond adorable, but I always look forward to reading her thoughtful Wednesday essays. Here's one of my favorite posts from her, called "Cultivate."
- It was really, really hard for me to pick a favorite post from Tammy or CJ at The Great Jollyhoombah--especially since the two of them have quite different writing styles and I'm very attached to both of them. So, I picked one of my favorites from each! Here's Tammy's post called I Love the NFL, and here's one from CJ: How and When to Speak to a Squirrel.
Have a joyful weekend!
